Anwendung
Das Past Progressive ist die Verlaufsform der Vergangenheit. Es wird in folgenden Fällen verwendet:
Bildung
Das Past Progressive wird gebildet mit was bzw. were und der Verlaufsform des Verbs.

He / she / it was reading
We were reading
You were reading
They were reading
Verneint wird durch ein not zwischen was bzw. were und der Verlaufsform des Verbs.
I was not reading
You were not reading
He / she / it was not reading
We were not reading
You were not reading
They were not reading
Fragen werden gebildet, indem was bzw. were vor das Subjekt gestellt wird.

Were you reading?
Was he / she / it reading?
Were we reading?

What were you doing at 9 o'clock yesterday evening?
I was playing football at 9 o'clock yesterday evening.
When my father came in, I was eating my sandwich.
When my father came in, my brother and I were not listening to the radio.
While my mother was preparing lunch I was playing the guitar.
Das Past Progressive ist die Verlaufsform der Vergangenheit. Es wird in folgenden Fällen verwendet:
- Eine Handlung fand gerade statt, als ein neues Ereignis geschah.
- She was doing her homework when her mother came in.
- Mehrere Vorgänge fanden gleichzeitig statt.
- My brother was playing with the dog and my sister was watching a film.
- Wenn ein Vorgang zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt oder in einem bestimmten Zeitraum abgelaufen ist.
- Yesterday at 3 pm I was reading a book.
